Ah, so there is the key to the mystery I requested recently on Adwoa's blog!Not being mechanically adept (but a fairly decent cleaner!), I can guess that an adjustment was needed on that linking arm...
yes, the challenge was to regulate the height of the carriage/platen, which would in turn determine at which position the typeslug hits the platen.
