In fact, this can easily be done once you own a slr camera. reverse mount adapters are available for no money at all, and do a terrific job. with a basic reverse adapter, you can start right away taking super close-ups. as our typewriters don't move, a tripod will stabilize enough. one challenge is the aperture to gain enough depth of field. for this, I invested in an electronic reverse adapter which keeps the aperture settings functioning with the lens reversed.
