Österr. Notgeld - Austrian emergency token money

Was ist Notgeld? Dazu informiert Herr Ernst Berger:
„Als Ersatz für die fehlenden kleinen Münzeinheiten da im ersten Weltkrieg alles Metall eingeschmolzen wurde ist in Österreich,genau wie in Deutschland Notgeld verausgabt worden . Während in Deutschland schon während des ersten Weltkrieges, jedoch hauptsächlich in den folgenden Jahren Notgeld ausgegeben wurde ,liegt die Ausgabezeit in Österreich in den Jahren 1918 bis1921. Zuerst begannen die größeren Städte mit der Ausgabe .Dann folgten kleinere und Kleinste Gemeinden aber auch Private „Geschäfte und Betriebe „ Leider wurde nach kurzer Zeit in vielen Fällen das Notgeld in der Hoffnung auf finanziellen Gewinn ausgegeben. Die Gemeinden und Privaten die Notgeld verausgabten, hafteten für den verausgabten Betrag. Die Verpflichtung bestand darin, die Scheine nach einer festgesetzten Laufzeit bis zur Höhe des Ausgabebetrages wieder einzulösen. In den meisten Fällen konnten nur 100 und mehr Scheine gebündelt gegen größere staatliche Banknoten Eingetauscht werden. Der finanzielle Vorteil der Ausgeber lag darin,dass größtenteils infolge starker Abnutzung der Scheine nur ein Bruchteil der Menge zur Einlösung vorgelegt wurde . Ein Teil blieb in Sammlerhänden,denn weder vor noch nach der Notgeldperiode hat es bildlich so schöne Geldscheine gegeben wie gerade zu dieser Zeit . Aus diesen Gründen wurden immer mehr unterschiedliche Notgeldscheine gedruckt und verausgabt. Dem Zweck entsprechend sollten die Geldscheine ohne größeren Aufwand gedruckt werden ,das Gegenteil war jedoch der Fall .Um die Sammlerleidenschaft noch mehr zu wecken ,wurden die Auflagen und Serien in verschiedenen Farben und Motiven gedruckt . Viele Gemeinden gaben dazu auch noch Sonderserien in hervorragender Qualität heraus. EUI photo competition "A Room with a View" 2005
Entries of the first photo competition at the European University Institute, Florence (Italy), organised by Georg Sommeregger and Atef Saif, from 30 Oct - 15 Nov 2005.
We had good fun organising this competition, and very happy about the many contributions and nice feedback. Participation, display, and voting was done over the web. Technically, it was quite a challenge to programm the webpage correspondingly, but we got it going and it worked! Thanks again to all participants!!

What does "the internet" know about you? I tried this webpage, but for some reason it tells me I am Swedish and my currency is Kronen. Whereas when I go down to Brunnenmarkt, they tell me to pay in Euros.. Does it work for you?

Useful blogger design tools - part 3
How to nicely print out blog posts
It is sometimes annoying that when you print out a blog entry, the whole header and menus print with it and result in a big loss of paper which even doesn't look good. So the aim is to have a print function which prints out "clean", the single blog entry only, without header, side-bars, etc. I wanted to have a button under each post, similar to the "post blog" or "edit blog" button which are standardized in blogger. Awaiting a blogger routine, this is what I did:
Adapting a printing style-sheet
I base myself mainly on this nice article. Read also the classic article here. On the basis of this, create a separate css print style-sheet, with a few adaptations for your blog. Use wordpad to do this. (You can also refer to the print.css i made for my blog: here. Change the portions of elements to hide, if necessary, and the http address.
Now upload the css file to the web. I used googlepages.com (if you have a gmail account, you automatically have a googlepage).
Next you link to the style-sheet to your blog by inserting in the html header section:

That's it, it should work. When you print, it should come out fine and economical. (it doesn't run perfectly smooth for mine, some longer documents don't print correctly, but I hope I can resolve that - any hints?).

Embedding power-point presentations is similar to embedding slide-shows. The tutorials here and on Beth's blog show you how to embed them on blogger using "tags". A great corresponding on-line tutorial (screencast) is here.
I exported my power-point-presentation as jpeg images ("save as..." --> all? yes, all) to a flickr "set", and embedded it follwing the method shown in point I.a above. For a picasa web album, see point II above.

Free and easy webspace is offered by google pages. All you need is a g-mail account, which is free, and a little price to pay. This service includes an easy to handle page creator. As an example (of an obviously underdeveloped page), see here. Further, you can stock mp3s and other documents which you can then link to from your blog.
Nice web-logs other than blogspot are given by My Opera. For an example, look at this nice page.
In general, visit Hans at http://beautifulbeta.blogspot.com for some nice tricks.

How to put your own logo on top of the page: see here or here. If you then want to hide the blog's title in the header, go to template --> html, find the style section for the header and add "display: none;" to header h1.
How to add a second side-bar: either you directly start with a three-column template (you can download some of the must popular ones here), or you can make it yourself. See also this workshop.

How to insert a google map in your blog: see here.
How to programme the "snap" function (the little bulb that hovers if you point to a link): from here.
